Ford 555D Transmission and Rear Axle Oil Dipsticks

Hi All,

I've recently acquired a Ford 555D (4X4) and have been trying to find the rear axle dipstick to check the oil level. The previous owner had indicated the transmission and rear axle dipstick was one in the same, and there was no separate dipstick for the rear differential only.

Looking through the operator's manual, it indicates two separate dipsticks (see attached picture). I've looked underneath the cab and only see one dipstick that comes up through, so I'm a little confused.

This backhoe was manufactured February 1993, so I'm not sure if there may have been a change to a separate dipstick configuration that is not captured in the operator's manual.

Any ideas on this one?

The dipstick for the centerhousing (which houses the differential) is right behind the transmission dipstick. It's under a cover plate on the floor.

thanks for the diagrams. I found the dipstick after looking underneath the cab and feeling around. The cab liner didn’t even seem to have a hole there, covered up with a bit of dirt. The fluid level was right in range, so that was a nice surprise.
