Hey guys,
I’m new to the forum and having some issues with my machine. It’s been running like a champ until last weekend.

The machine has plenty of power and works exactly like it should in all functions for about 5-8 minutes. Then the hydraulic pump gets to hot to touch and starts shutting down, blowing black smoke and locking up. When it cools off, it runs great again for 5min. There was a clicking from the pump when it was running good and now there isn’t anymore clicking. The engine doesn’t gets hot before all this happens.

I’ve been reading the other posts and it’s looking like the DP sensor is bad. Unfortunately I don’t know where it is, can somebody point me in the direction of a service manual?

I’d like to check everything out before I spend a fortune on parts. I just did a complete undercarriage on it and now this.‍

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy , by any chance Common Coupler Styles for Hitachi ZX50 and ZW80 in the USA?
Unfortunately I cannot help you. I’m new to troubleshooting what I have and don’t know anything about those other machines. Try starting a new thread, maybe somebody will answer your questions.

I installed the new sensor and it ran great for 10min then it started acting up again. The pump is loading the engine and causing it to stall. 100% positive the DP sensor was bad. I bench tested it with 5V and the voltage adjustment screw doesn’t work anymore. I’m getting the same results when I back probed it on the machine.

I’ll disconnect the battery to reset the PVC and check the codes again. This is a guess but I think the problem is the sensor that controls the two solenoids on the pump. When it was running great I could hear them click and watch the hoses move. Now the hoses don’t move but I can feel a light click every few seconds.

I talked to previous owner. He told me the only issue he had was sand in the fuel tank. I’m going through the fuel system today.

Diesel Dave, I can’t thank you enough for walking me through all this. We’re up and running great again. I have a few issues that need fixing but nothing major.

Long post but to recap in case someone else is having similar issues. ….Stalling under load, hydraulic oil getting hot and no power when moving the controls.

1) PVC codes said the DP sensor was bad. Back probed sensor on the machine and bench tested before spending $2k. It was bad and replaced with an OEM sensor. That fixed the hydraulic oil from getting hot and hissing. Loss of power was better but now intermittent.

2) Reset codes. EC fault, communication fault between EC and PVC….N sensor fault. Machine ran a little rough I-P on the throttle control but stalled when moving bucket controls. Went after the fuel filter and the banjo screen (banjo screen was packed full of rust and sand). Machine ran great for 5min then started acting up again. Banjo screen was clean. Poked around and found the problem. The hole in the battery cable end was to big. The wing nut only tightened on the terminal stud and not on the wire. At some point, half the terminal end melted off. Replaced and now we’re kicking ass.

This machine is new to me so I’m working my way through things as they come up. The tank is coming off this afternoon. It runs great for 20min before the banjo screen is packed full again. Gonna fix it now before garbage makes it to the injection pump.

Thanks again,
Andy
