Hi folks, question in relation to my Hitachi EX60-5 .. the bucket ram speed seems to be fairly slow especially on extending the ram / bringing the bucket in. Have checked around lever no restrictions, oil levels fine hydraulic filters changed and all clean etc. It seems excessively slow compared to the boom/dipper ram. Any advice or things to check that might help with this. TIA

Good day
I suggest to measure how many seconds it takes to roll in should be about 4.0 secs. About 2.5 to roll out with full speed, no load. Measure from the point of movement, not when you hit the handle. It appears from your post the issue of concern is isolated to the bucket cylinder in one direction. Spool movement & pilot pressure comes to mind, however it may be wise to measure the speed first.
Kind regards

Having checked the roll in speed from point of movement,it's coming in at 4.5 seconds to fully roll in when engine is at full rev. Is there anything I can do to possibly adjust this so the movement is quickened?

Good day Pat
To make the bucket faster boils down to increasing the flow (=Speed). Increasing flow using what you have means increasing the engine speed which will increase the speed of the other circuits - boom - slew - arm Ect.
I suggest being sure the engine speed is up to specifications 2200 r.p.m. , the times in your post are not so bad, there are other solutions decreasing the size of the bucket cylinder will affect speed but also reduce digging force. Making other modifications are going to cost money and time which I guess you like most of us only have a limited supply.
Keep smiling

Hi Expert and Helpers of the newbies!

I just bought a 1995 ex 60-2 I think Excavator. Not sure how to tell the Gen 1,2,3...
Sometimes when you start it, the Bucket is really slow and no power and then sometimes when you start it it normal operating. Just the bucket. Arm and tracks are fast. Thanks in advance. Some one suggested it was a scrambled computer. PS rebuilt Hydraulic pump recently installed. I look forward to being a part of this fine Group of experts!
Parts and Service Manuals would be great! [email protected]

Good day
I suggest you test the bucket pressure in both directions it may be as simple as a shock valve.
Kind regards

Hi folks

Just reviving this thread to see if there would be any other ideas of what the bucket and dipper ram seem to be operating excessively slowly on my ex60-5. The digger seems to the operating well in every other regard, the boom ram/slewing/tracking etc but I never got anywhere with the bucket and dipper ram speed issue. I recently had a man operate the digger who has a ex120-5 and he found the the speeds were excessively slow even when putting the digger up to full revs. Any pointers would be appreciated!
