For anyone interested in the history of earthmoving / mining / agricultural equipment the book "Yellow Steel" by William R Haycroft is great reading. It is available in soft cover, consisting of over 450 pages and covers the rise and fall of the industry since 1908 when the first internal combustion engine was fitted to a crawler tractor. Here in Oz, it is available from Plough Books.

Andrew, In the scale of things, here in Oz & NZ, we were only a small player in the manufacturing side. How-ever, there were a few big projects over the past 50 years here but unfortunately, none were mentioned. The book is centred on the American, British & European manufacturers and projects mainly.
