Hi guys, just purchased a 2012 333D track skid with 1400hrs and sure enough get it home and having trouble starting. It turns over but will not start.

I get an active code 636.10.

When I was looking at it no issues, would always start up great. I am upstate NY and they always had it plugged in when I came by to look at it which I did on three different occasions, but don't think that can be anything with that as I have it plugged in too now. Its cold out about 20-30 degrees. I am new to this and would appreciate any help.

Thanks

According to the fault code description the crank sensor can also cause this code to be falsely generated. So check that circuit out as well.

Press and hold the menu button for 5 seconds to enter the service mode. Press next until you get to codes, press select (should read "active codes"), then next until "clear codes" displays, then press select to clear the codes.

Thanks for your help guys!!

Little update, so I had the skid plugged in all night. This morning it started up fine and no active codes. Do you think the glow plugs are no good and need to be replaced?

Thanks!

Possible, but not likely. "D" series are notoriously hard starters in winter. We usually see a huge improvement when both the engine and hydraulic oil is changed to 0W-40 full synthetic engine oil. Having the block heater is a plus as well. Sounds like your machine does not have the cold start package. If you want to check the glow plugs they are not easy to get to. They are under the valve cover. You can test them with an amp clamp on the wire coming out the back of the head. There is no published amp spec for them but typically the initial amperage could be 50-100 amps dropping quickly to 40-50 amps as they warm up.

Thanks MG, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. As I will not be using it much over the next few winter months, the first thing on my list is to change the engine and hydraulic oil. Its okay to run 0W-40 fully synthetic oil all year round?

What does the cold start package entail?

Thanks once again and Merry Christmas too all and a Happy New Year!!

Merry Christmas to you too!
It is OK to run 0W-40 synthetic year round. The cold start package includes a block heater and plumbing to bypass the fan drive to reduce parasitic load on the engine for cranking. Give me a serial number and I can look to see if it was factory installed. However I cannot see if it was field installed. Also it this machine mechanical levers or an "EH" machine?
