Started have some issues with our 790.

Starting - sometimes (doesn't do it consistently) when we turn the key, the engine turns over 1 or 2 times and stops. Seems to turn fast, but not enough revs to start. Tested the batteries and they are OK. Pulled the starter off and took it to the dealer for testing. They found some corrosion inside, cleaned everything and it tests OK. Mentioned to the dealer that the ground post on the side of the starter did not have a cable on it (must have been grounding through the engine block?). Dealer suggested putting a ground cable from the post back to the ground at the batteries. Did that, but still having starting issues. Yes, the ground cable went to the -'ve on the battery that is connected to the machine frame, not the other battery! ;)

Second issue: Throttle/rpm - When pushing the max power button (does this for other power levels too), the machine revs up for 1-2 seconds then back to idle. Moving control levers does not increase the rpm back up as it should with the auto-idle function turned on. Tried turning the auto-idle function off - same result. Only way to get it to work is to use the manual up/dn buttons to increase rpm, but it does not go right up to max power rpm.

Are these seperate issues? Starting issue began showing up about 1 month ago. RPM issue last week.

Ideas??

Sounds alot like your fuel shutoff solenoid is on its way out. If I remember correctly the throttle control is tied into the fuel shutoff solenoid in some way shape or form, I ran into a similar issue on our 892. Hopefully this helps.
