Hello everyone im new to this.equipment forum.
I got this problem
My john deere 323e was running perfectly fine..i was moving stuff around the farm with it all day it worked perfect..next morning i turn it on release brake moves for a few seconds then it stops and monitor showing this message to ( return controls to center) (safety thing) now it wont let me relase the hydraulics and arms where halfway up..so now i couldnt get out..so i had to take off the glass door from the inside in order to get out..after i got out i loosen the hydraulic line to get the arms down..monitor sayin left joystick has mechanical damage and some CAN abnormal data thing.
fIrst i checked all connections.seemed ok..trow some pb blaster in every connector and to the joystick.no luck..took joystick apart and sprayed pretty good with electric spray cleaner..put it back together and sprayed connections with cleaner as well and plug it in and it worked fine again.(this was late night now).next morning i go turn it on and same message again (return controls to center). Talked to john deere delaer mechanic. He says the solution is to replace the $1300 joystick plus around $400 to reprogram and calibration..i find it hard to believe this joystick is no good all of a sudden..the lever is tight.machine has 2500 hours..any of you had this problem?

Welcome to HEF pablotrucker19;)!

First, a complete machine serial number is needed (so accurate information can be acquired).

Next, ignition on, engine off, press and hold the menu button on the monitor for approximately 5 seconds until the words "SERVICE MENU" appear in the screen. Release the button. Scroll to codes. Record all active and stored codes. Post the active codes, if any. If all the codes are stored, then clear them. Operate the machine and see what comes back.

Hello and thanks for replying
The machine serial number is. 1T0323EKCGJ301286

there is 3 active codes
1/3 JSL 3509.02 No dtc info erratic or bad data

2/3 HCU 2697.07 left joystick x-axis mechanical fault

3/3 HCU 2698.07 left joystick y-axis mechanical fault

I cleared all stored codes and this 3 keep coming up.

Interesting, JSL 3509.02 is not on the list of codes. No matter. Based on the other 2 codes that remain active, you need a new left joystick controller.

plus around $400 to reprogram and calibration
Reprogramming is not required, only a calibration. That you can do yourself. If you don't have a manual, I can send you the procedure via messages.

One question.i got a friend with john deere skid steer..i can borrow the joystick from him to test it just to discard its the joystick and not a broken wire somewhere..if i plug in his joystck to my machine is it gonna work? his skid steer is working good
ASking this because when i took out mine to clean up i saw the joystick has 2 little computers or modules..wondering if theyre programed calibrated to a specific machine

That depends on which model and serial# he has and if the part numbers are the same. If they are the same part number, then yes, you can try it.

Or is there a way to bypass this safety message that says (return controls to center)
No, there is no way to do that.

Go back into the monitor's service menu, scroll to diagnostics, press select, scroll to left joystick, press select. What do the percentages read with the lever in neutral, pushed forward and pulled backwards? Also, if the numbers are seen and changing when moving the lever, then the wiring is, most likely, not the issue.

Check your messages.

They just stay at 0s. I tried the right joystick that one does go to 100% either side.. left joystick just stays at 0% what does this mean? Is it a faulty joystick or wiring?

Theres a 6 pin plug that connects to the controller it only has 4 wires red black yellow green. Red has 12v power with key on black is ground. I assumed the other 2 were going to computer since they didnt had ground or power.i checked for continuity with ohm reader. They checked out good.
Swaped controls left to right right to left.still showing same message but now trows new codes for the right joystick no good..its now clear the left joystick is the problem..hard to believe something that was working good with no issues just went bad out of nowhere.
Went to john deere dealer yesterday ordered a new one. $1369 dollar piece..seller said theres no warranty on electric parts..it should be here by friday.ill keep yall posted what happens.

I went through this on my 2012 328D a couple of months ago. The Tech told me there is no setup after replacing the joystick and I could have saved $400 by putting it in myself, your machine is obviously newer so it may be different.

I just got the controller today from the dealer it took a few days to get here..i installed it today and it worked fine..the machine moves good to all directions..however i checked the percentages of the left joystick in the monitor the way mg2361 told me and its got 100% to everyside exept when you pull back its got 99%..i came to get diesel because it was pretty low on fuel..im gonna do the calibrations when i get back and try it out..ill let ya know how it goes.
