Hi. New to forum. Looking to purchase a new 8 ton excavator. We have narrowed choices down to Kobelco SK75SR or Komatsu PC78US. Komatsu is a little more expensive and dealer is a little further away. Otherwise, machines have very similar specs. Have priced both machines with 4yr warranty since that is standard with Kobelco. Does anyone have any first hand experience with either of these machines? Specifically concerned with reliability, maintenance costs & dealer support. Located in Toronto, ON. If anyone is local and can chime in, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

I have been around a bunch of Kobelcos and I would have to say they were very good machines. Had a 70 and put 4500 hours on it with no issues, had a 115 and put 5500 hours on it and had to replace the safety switch solenoid and the grease seal around the turntable, I now work for the company that bought the 115 and it’s still going strong. I used to have a guy help me from time to time when I had my own company that had a 75, he had no issues with it, ran it for 4500 hours or so with no issues before he traded it in on a smaller machine. Dealer support is key though no matter what you buy, especially now since almost everything needs to be “plugged in” to diagnose most issues.
