Working on a liebherr lt125 crane, it starts normally but when I engage the pump to use the crane it cuts off the engine. What could be the problem

Could the pump be dead heading? If it is, be glad the engine quits before the pump blows up. Another thought, could there be a hyd. valve that isn't returning to neutral like for a stabilizer or something and that's what's stalling the engine?
