Here are my Dynahoe 190-2. These are the first pieces of equipment I have ever owned. The lighter Yellow is complete running with very little leaking. The darker yellow is the spare machine with a few pistons that need to repacked. They both run and the spare machine has newer tires and a clamshell bucket. I can't wait to learn how to run them as I have a garage foundation to dig in the spring.20150115_083623.jpg20150115_083644.jpg

I just dragged this old International 250A home. Shes pretty crusty but I have already done some repairs, water pump, hoses, converted to Delco 10si alternator, and will gradually de rust, clean and paint it. The splines on the upper backhoe pivot are pretty tight on this one luckily.

I have found that generally speaking leaving the boom unlocked helps balance the machine while traveling, especially when carrying a load in the front bucket as the rear unsprung weight cushions the ride. The booms on most backhoes leak down by themselves anyway eventually so an operator will be checking that from time to time by force of habit. That is my observation anyway.Ron G

I have a Deere. They don't lock over centre like a Case but I leave mine slightly off of the lock when roading. It smooths the ride quite a bit but still not smooth.

Understandable, I just believe in locking them when using the front and it pieves me to see them unlocked. :-(

So its probably hard on the main pivot mount and pin and bushings to drive around with it bouncing up and down right?

If I'm going to road my backhoe any distance I'll lock the boom otherwise I never do, no point in it for traversing around a small job site.

This is exactly why I feel its always necessary to lock the boom whether traveling short or long distances. I guess to each their own, but I believe they were designed and fitted for a reason so I use them. Its not hard to pull a boom in all the way and flip a stick to the locked position.
