Im doing a much needed "tune-up/restoration" on my ole 68 580CK. The rear tires are at least 30 years old and totally shot. The tires on it now are 14.9 x 24, but the Parts Manual I just got shows that it takes 16.9 with backhoe and 17.5 x 24 without backhoe and with fork lift. Then it mentions the 14.9 x 24 used with or without backhoe. Kinda confusing.

I have always thought that the rear end was sitting too low, and am thinking that trying to go up to the 16.9 x 24 would give me the added clearance I always wanted. What size rear tires are most old 580CK sporting these days?

Here is the 30 yr old front tire. What is the correct size for the front tires? Number of plys should be 8? Book shows 7.5 x 16.....does that seem standard on these early CKs?

Tinkerer.....thanks....those links came up, and I suppose that either the 14.9 or 16.9 x 24s work with a backhoe. I see that 10 ply 7.5 x 16 is best for the front tires.

I would stay with the 14.9. Bill has it right. I have a 1975 580 b with 16.9. The smallest rise and down to low range 1st or maybe 2nd gear.
