By the way, here's a BU-739, with slackpulling drum (not mounted) for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/Skagit-739-slac...573?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35b3128325. It has been some pic's of this machine in this tread before, tower is shortened to 70' but machine comes with an 110' or 120' spar included.

For that price, if I had the money, I should have bought it, brought it to Norway and parked it just outside town with the tower rised as a tourist attraction!

This Skagit 739 (as featured in post #168) has been saved from the torches, a buyer was found. Tom Arnold Logging is buying the machine for use in the upcoming Condit Dam removal project. Says they're going to ferry 20,000Lb loads across a distance of 600ft. He's taking it with the 75ft tube that is currently mounted, Ed didn't want the taller tube or the conventional axles that I had included in the auction.

I hauled logs for the Gilkison's and I want to say their Skagit was a 737. I haven't been around them since they got their Thunderbird, but next time I see Bret I'll quiz him about their Skagit.

It was a 739 as I was interested in it when they were selling, The reason they sold it was that the TY-90 was a one piece move and they didn't have to yank the hoist. It was a really clean and nice machine that was going for a great price. Just curious where it may have gone or if it was even a logger anymore.
Thanks!!

The GT-3 in this picture does belong to Levanen. They bought it from Buckhorn Logging in Kalispell, MT. Buckhorn is who painted it TB colors, the machine was original Skagit colors when it came to Montana from northern California.

Wow that's an old thread Eric, forgot about that one? Where does Levanen usually work? I see your machine from my house with binoculars.

That is Canyon creeks old yarder. The operator "Hermie" used to think it was funny to bounce soup cand, banana peels, soda cans, ect off of my hard hat when I was chasing. He didn't do it anymore after I hung the lock thru the hasp of his door and filled my 064's muffler with bar oil and smoked the cab out from underneath. He couldnt get out and the guarding on the windows prevented him from getting much air. He nearly died in there as I burned a whole muffler full of oil into the cab. Needless to say the lil b*****d quit screwing w/me!!

BME from Lacenter owns that yarder now and it is pretty rough shape from when Howard Rogers had it. Blake Lampert of BULL-IT logging had it after Howard and gave it to Bill Paulson for his bill when he shutdown his outfit. Blake works for B&M now.

Note to self: Don't screw with Hallback. ROFL. My favorite 'harmless' prank back in the days of manual oilers... was to shoot several squirts of bar oil on to the chain as the saw idled, then aim it at the backside of an unsuspecting coworker, and goose the throttle. I could lay a mean oil slick down with a little practice.....

I didn't realize you were looking for info on it until he mentioned it to me last night. :beatsme

I have always been told that they only built 6 of these on that Chapman crawler. You have one of those here! Also, I've seen most of the SY-717's and never seen one with the high cab like yours- it's probably the only one like this around. You have a really neat find here and nice clear pics too!

Most of the SY-717's I've been around were on the tank bottom. The Chapman-mounted machines I've seen are in much rougher condition than your machine too.

That's a great find indeed!:notworthy

Another Skagit SY-717 on Chapman

I just found these and they're lousy shots compared to yours Skadill. I had to clean them up bigtime and added my logo for later, not realizing I'd be posting them here tonight.

It shows the factory cab configuration if nothing else.

This machine was in the Palmer, Washington area on the Green River around 1993.

Skagit SY-717 on the Tank Bottom

Here's the tank version of that SY-717. Tank was heavier- a good thing for stability, but bad mechanically. Hard to steer and always having track problems.
