Hello, I have a 2003 TA40 that is getting code B8. Service manual says its the "differential pressure switch". Two options are listed, transmission filter or the sensor itself. The dealership doesnt know the location of the sensor or how to test it. Anyone know where it is or have had this code before?

Hi AndyWofle,
assume you got a ZF 6WG310 tranny in your truck.
according to my documents "B8" code ist overtemperature retarder oil when braking downhill for longer time. "BA" is filter switch which is located in double filter head. There is some spring force when taking out. Usually filters are polluted or wires/plug broken.

Ah yes you are correct, i miss wrote B8 when meaning BA. I changed the filters multiple times and oil is clean so it must be the sensor or wires. Do you know if there is a way of testing the sensor?

Hi again,
the switch is a simple on/off type. Pin in switch depressed like in sketch: Low diff. pressure, no BA code. High diff pressure, pin released, code BA coming up with oil temp. above 60 degrees Celcius, engine rpm below 1800 rpm. Background for temperature and speed: Diff. pressure of filters also high at low temp. and/or high speeds.
Another question: There is definitely no cooling water in oil? Else filter paper will be blocked almost instantly.

No coolant in the oil, the code sometimes comes and goes, but is always on at some point in the day. Im leaning towards the sensor being faulty. Once the sensor is removed do you think ill be able to see anything inside? Will also cut filters open this time but have drained oil off bottom of transmission before with clean oil coming out and nothing but clean oil on the dip stick. Thank you for all your help, much appreciated

Also check proper function of piston behind sensor. Moves without any restrictions? Any scratches, debris?
