Well it appears Volvo learned a hard lesson. They have gone public and are going to stop building feller bunchers. Check out their website for yourself. Here is a copy of an email plus part of the public release.
"Gentlemen, Please see the announcement from Volvo below regarding feller buncher line. You can all be proud of the job you have done in our territory to dominate this market segment. We are definitely a part of this decision, because British Columbia was a target market for Volvo bunchers. This is a great example of how full sales, parts, service, and credit support by a dealer and manufacturer can make it appear impossible for a competitor to penetrate a market. Great job! "
" Volvo Construction Equipment to Cease Production of Feller Bunchers Volvo CE has decided to cease production of its Feller Bunchers and to focus its attention on those products where it has a strong foothold. The existing machine population will continue to be supported by Volvo Construction Equipment and its dealers. Sam Wyant, vice president sales at Volvo CE North America, said that "the Volvo Feller Buncher is an excellent piece of equipment that satisfies the needs of its owners and operators, and we regret having to remove it from our forestry product line. Rest assured that Volvo will remain a major supplier of other types of equipment in the forestry segment that will perform to the high satisfaction of our customers." Volvo products for the forestry market include Volvo’s full line of wheel loaders (Volvo L60F through Volvo L350F Log Loader) which are used in the log handling industry as well as Volvo Tracked Forestry Carriers (Volvo FC2421C, Volvo FC2924C and Volvo FC3329C).
