Running what I brung and taking what I win
And I just checked my February numbers since its March 1st. I billed them $34200.00 in repair work last month.

How quickly do they pay?

Huge difference between billing and collecting.

Last place worked at before I pulled the plug, gave them 2 months notice to get the fleet winter ready and maybe hire someone. Younger guy who basically ran shop worked days, generally nothing to do (most of the trucks out on the road) but paperwork and schmoozing with salesmen who popped in all day did something stupid that he thought was funny. When I voiced my displeasure things got a little heated and he told me if I didn't like it I could leave. Without missing a beat looked at him and said ' yeah I can can't I" Big $hit eatin" grin on my face, locked my box and walked out the door. Look on his face was priceless.

Left with out a notice--depends on the situation. Yes giving notice should be done, but
remember folks a boss can fire at a moments for any reason and not have to explain it
either. Two way street.
Wife was given a merit raise not even half of the change of the Cost of Living.
Then they asked her what her retirement age would be. "5 years" she replied.
They asked the wrong question. The right question is "when are you leaving".
They will know exactly 30 days before that and not a minute sooner. That raise did not purchase any loyalty!

I still get a knot in my stomach when I remember being asked “you don’t like working here anymore, do you”
We both knew the answer to that, but I really wasn’t ready for it.
Things turned out OK in the end. there have been many changes at the plant, and I live in sight and sound of the yard. I do miss it.

I love reading “quitting” stories.!!!
When I got ready to go, the shop was really slow..
I was coming in at 10:00, going to lunch for an hour and on most days leaving at 3:00.!!
I had a job that had been there waiting on parts for a month..
The parts were coming from Japan on a slow boat..
I decided that once THAT JOB was done, so was I.. & relayed that to the shop foreskin, verbatim..
The parts came in the very next day., lol..
I held true to my word.. I finished the job, gathered my tools and loaded them up and that was it..
I really didn’t think it was gonna be THAT QUICK THO.. lol

The last part is a lot like me I actually built my house on land we bought from the company.

Unfortunately my next door neighbor is now one of the local bosses at the quarry and we have had some problems what with him having his chicken coup about ten feet over on to the land I take care of for a family member. Also him letting his dogs run free and acting aggressive toward my wife when she is walking our dog on leash on our property.

Last I knew there were only two people who are still there that I worked with over the years. Actually I worked with their dad from the first day with the company in 1968!

The Ag company I worked for before my last employer and retired from {sort of} had a
new general manager, hired about three years before I left. Self impressed, narcissistic,
egotistical piece of excrement he was. It took three years for the septic tank to boil over.
He came up to the shop screaming the {Cogs Worth Cogs of Spacely Sprockets}--------
Flakester Your Fired! I knew this coming for weeks, had every thing already for a quick
move. {Your Never Going to Work in This Town Again--crap started spewing forth}.
I asked him If I could use the forklift to load my tool boxes-{Go Ahead but Make it Quick}.
So I forked up the main chest with two side boxes and the top box, drove out the gate-
down the street 3/4 of a block and set them down in Tate Transportations shop, drove
back, parked the lift and said---I already have a new job, go to work tomorrow.
His face was so red I thought he might need CPR in a minute--won't get it from me.
Didn't mean to side track your thread Vetech.

Heck the place I was working at up to three weeks ago was giving me red flags left and right but the paycheck cashed. Three weeks ago Tuesday I told them the rig I was running was going to sit till the brakes were fixed, I was fired on the Friday. The brakes were never fixed.

Sounds like you have a similar predicament to me. You want to be a good neighbor but the neighbor seems to think his dogs can go wherever they want. In my case on the road chasing vehicles coming to my MX track. It's not the dogs fault but they are a real problem. The other problem is the neighbor acts like the road police taking pics. of vehicles he "thinks" are speeding and calling the cops to report them. Of course pics. are useless but how would he feel if I had 2 dozen or more people complain to the county about his dogs on the road?? I'm thinking about going to the county and explaining my predicament. I've heard from someone who has relatives in the area that my neighbor has complained about my track. The track was there12 years before he moved there. I don't want it to become a Hatfields vs the McCoys type deal where's trying to get me shut down and finding anything and everything to complain about. I'm hoping to get a lot busier with the oval track as well. I don't know the best thing to do without having the neighbor absolutely hate me. I'm not going to call him everytime I expect a bunch of people out. I'm open to suggestions? In a way I guess it's relative to Vetech's situation. When is enough, enough and you put your foot down!

Isn't this little saw cute! I feel like I am doing lifesaving surgery on a puppy.

The throttle cable evidently broke at some point in the past, so they wired it wide open. Travel speed cable is also broke.

Ignore that oil you see. That was what I couldn't catch from spinning the engine over to get the ATF out. I installed the replacement carb and fuel pump. She fired right up but smoked like a freight train for the first 10 minutes. I could tell it had a stuck piston ring so I revved it twice and let it idle for 30 minutes. The ring freed up and now its running like a sewing machine. Smoke cleared up thank goodness!

I'll have about $3K in this once I'm done. It pays the same to work on repairs of little equipment as a Cat D11........it's just the lifting and muscle is much less;)
