It spun both ways. I straightened out the springs then it would lock in both ways , the transmission had a tag on it saying it was rebuilt in 2017 , but yes I'll be getting all the parts

It spun free in both directions, I straightened out the springs to see and it would lock in , what would cause those springs to rotate in there

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
Like this.......

(9) Race
(10) Cam
(11) Spring
(12) Slot
(13) Cam Surface
(14) Roller

The torque converter stator is fixed to the cam (10) by splines. When the hydraulic oil tries to move the stator in the opposite direction to the turbine, rollers (14) are forced into the narrow end of the slot (12). This prevents the cam and stator assembly from rotating around the carrier. Since the cam is held stationary, the stator cannot turn and the freewheel clutch is locked.

I wonder how many this rebuild guy has done like this.
If they did this wrong what kind of a rebuild did they do on the rest of it?
I can’t understand how it worked at all but it must have been grabbing a bit.

thanks to all and thanks to @Cmark for pointing out the mis-assembly. I noted the odd sideways springs but of course know nothing else. Slowly learning :)
You have to admit, the springs on the narrow side had to be easier to put together ;)
