Smooth transition from flat to slope

I have the one in degrees that you had the link for in my 12G grader, it works very well I think. I haven't compared it to the Slopemeter ones but I don't think you will be disappointed. I don't have to worry about the low temp problems you get so I cant comment on that issue. In Australia the...

    D6D Serial # question & general info...

Why would you want to pull the cab off? I got really crook with sinus problems a few years ago and can’t handle being in the dust on open cap machines any more without dust masks, that’s one of the reasons I went to newer machines. I do love the old open cab machines I still have, but less dust...

Cat 12G horsepower upgrade or other options

Yeah ok. Well I will make sure of that too then!! Makes sense to me. I think he worked for Cat before he went out on his own as a contractor so he should be up to speed…. He will be after this anyway. The dealer is a secondhand dealer and routinely gets the Cat dealer guys in to do updates on...

Cat D6H LGP 2 overheating engine (coolant restrictor?)

Yeah I have cat gauges but I think they are 145psi and 575psi, I have the part numbers. When I was at the hydraulic shop getting all the parts to put the rippers on this machine I got another set of STAUFF gauges in 86psi and 45psi so I can test stuff more accurately at the lower pressures. They...

Cat 12G horsepower upgrade or other options

Yeah ok, I’m new to how ET works… got a quick demo and got to have a play with it for a few hours the other day but still working it all out. Yep I will make sure I get it then! I think he will be ok about it… he is personally responsible for this one and he’s making stuff happen to get it...

Cat D6H LGP 2 overheating engine (coolant restrictor?)

Very interesting!!! Thanks for posting this!!! I am mentally wired to want to know “the why” behind everything. So this satisfies my hunger for information on this matter. Also interesting is the pressure spec for the new valve assembly in vehicle is 56 +-2psi and the testing and adjusting in...

Cat 12G horsepower upgrade or other options

Yeah he is coming with laptop to plug in and see what it says. Also with some other clutch modulation valves if needed to swap and check if that is the problem. We are hoping the drama is in the valves and a calibration. I will check in regards to the ECM software. I spoke to Caterpillar about...

Cat 12G horsepower upgrade or other options

So another update…. The new grader isn’t going well so far. It came back to a mates place closer to home and I was going to pick it up from there. We reversed it off his truck (seemed sluggish engaging reverse) and was going to load it on mine. I thought I’d see what was going on with the...

Cat D6H LGP 2 overheating engine (coolant restrictor?)

So I installed the new springs in the Torque converter outlet valve and started with 3 shims. Then reassembled it to check. Stalled @85*c = 54psi @100*c = 53psi Lube pressure after driving around for a while to heat everything up properly. @85*c = 40psi then dropped back and stabilised at 36psi...

Adding Rippers to a Cat D6H diff steer

So I think I have everything I need -Thread tap set for cleaning and restoring threads. -New studs and nuts -Hydraulic change over valve(24v was double price of 12v) -All the hydraulic fittings and combinations I could possibly need just in case. All in field reusable so I can make exactly...

Adding Rippers to a Cat D6H diff steer

I hadn’t thought about extra remotes. I don’t have a use for them right now but there is a few things I wouldn’t mind trying in the future that they would be handy for. I had already got all the bits when I saw this so I will just go with what I have for now. I don’t think it would be too hard...

Adding Rippers to a Cat D6H diff steer

That’s a fair point about the twin cylinders. It might be a bit small? I think they were 1/2” I was going to go back later with a ORF fitting from cat that is the same as on the tilt cylinder hoses, so that we can try and work out what fittings and hoses I need. I want to try and set it up so...

Adding Rippers to a Cat D6H diff steer

Ok so about $200 for the diverter valve so that is the cheapest and easiest way to go it seems. Rated for 200bar the guy said and 80L/min so that should be ok I think? Just have to work out the fittings and hoses required now for that side of things.

Adding Rippers to a Cat D6H diff steer

Thanks Nige. That should be long enough do you think? 2” for nut and mounting plate, 2” in machine threads

Adding Rippers to a Cat D6H diff steer

Mounting plates are 25mm thick so I’ll go and terrorise the Cat dealer parts guys with my list of other parts I need and get some measurements of the standard studs.
