Yeah ok. Well I will make sure of that too then!! Makes sense to me.
I think he worked for Cat before he went out on his own as a contractor so he should be up to speed…. He will be after this anyway.

The dealer is a secondhand dealer and routinely gets the Cat dealer guys in to do updates on all machines if they need any before they are sold I am told. So will be interesting when I upload it and check.

Long overdue update for anyone interested.
So the new grader is home and now done some work as well. It ended up going back to the secondhand dealer for another pull down of the transmission and got fixed properly the second time.
It’s a very long story to get to here and I don’t want to bore everyone with it, but all now seems to be working as it should in regards to the transmission.

It won’t surprise people to know that Nige was a massive help behind the scenes, helping me make sure it was getting fixed correctly the second time around. I can’t really express my gratitude to Nige for all your help on this!!! I hope I get to shake your hand in person one day, but in the mean time all I can do is say thank you.

I would suggest that you do a filter change and cut the old one for inspection within the first 100 operating hours or so.

Thanks Nige yeah ok that’s a good point, I’ll do that. I think it would only have about 60hrs so far due to more wet weather hold ups so I’ll drop the filter when I get over to it again and post a pic.
So far I have found I need to re bush the pins for the articulation cylinders very soon and there is a bit of play in one of the king pins but otherwise just needs a couple of shims taken out to tighten a couple things up a bit tighter.
It looks like it could be fun getting the artic cylinders out of the machine?

See this LINK for a good video on cutting & inspecting a filter element.

Maybe at the same time pull an oil sample and have it analyzed, especially for the ISO Contamination Code. That will give you a good idea of the levels of particles in the powertrain oil system.

Yeah ok the oil sample is a good idea as well. The Adept Ape on YouTube seems to be pretty good, I’ve seen a few of his videos now.

I found this video of line boring the 140m artic cylinders done by a Aussie guy that seems like he knows what he’s doing with his videos as well. I was surprised he didn’t need a hollow ram to pull and install the pins!

I have to reseal the articulation cylinders on the 12g as well and I think I’ll be working out how to use the hollow ram on it. I need to rebuild the centre hitch on the 12G at some point too but I am dreading doing that.
