Interesting Nicky and D8 and with a territory population of ?100M and about the size of Victoria [an Australian State], what brands dominated the large machine landscape?
Leibherr, Oliver, Fiat/Allis, Euclid, Hanomag as guesses?
As Nige says, depends on the era.
I started working in the late 80’s where there were a mix of Cat and Komatsu tractors in the large category,Terex and Cat scrapers and Cat and Terex in the rigid truck department, although there were a handful of Lectra Haul,Euclid and Aveling Bardford rigid dumpers knocking around.
Excavators were much more mixed with Cat,Komatsu,Liebherr,Ackerman,O&K,Demag and every far eastern effort you can think of.
Not forgetting the JCB brigade.
These days, although Komatsu supply many small to midsize dozers, you’d be hard pushed to find big ones. They seemed to have lost their crown in the 155 size and above.Cat have the D8,D9,D10 job sown up all though a D475 does work in a Scottish silica sand pit.
Scrapers are Cat only
