Hi all, engine oil pump main feed pipe has no seal. Just metal to metal contact surfaces. Our serial number is 66a 5665. The later models seem to have seal as my parts book starts at 9000 ish and lists one. It does signify C for change. Has anyone come across this before? Thanks

Jonathon,I’ve just advertised a D9G parts book on Old Girls for free.
Do you want me to check the serial numbers tomorrow as the parts book may be useful to you

There can't be too many 9s over there, any chance you've known this one at some point?

There’s still a few hidden about on these shores Shimmy, most of which aren’t on any any social media platforms.D8 Ump and myself have been known to share a few pints occasionally when we meet up.He has some very nice D8’s,but he’s known the D9G in question for some years although I’ve not seen the beast myself.

Interesting Nicky and D8 and with a territory population of ?100M and about the size of Victoria [an Australian State], what brands dominated the large machine landscape?

Leibherr, Oliver, Fiat/Allis, Euclid, Hanomag as guesses?

It all depends in which era you are talking about, what product line (track-type tractors, wheel loaders, motor scrapers, etc) and lastly what size of machine. Each combination will produce different answers.

!970s & 1980s for example and large machines. Track-type tractors - Cat/Komatsu; Motor scrapers Cat/Terex/Le Tourneau; Wheel loaders - Cat/Michigan. Off-highway trucks - Cat/Terex/Wabco/Unit Rig.

That’s correct.
Me Hewes purchased the tractor from a quarry in Northumberland after I sold them a D8N and a D9R making the said D9G redundant.
It’s a decent old D9G

As Nige says, depends on the era.
I started working in the late 80’s where there were a mix of Cat and Komatsu tractors in the large category,Terex and Cat scrapers and Cat and Terex in the rigid truck department, although there were a handful of Lectra Haul,Euclid and Aveling Bardford rigid dumpers knocking around.
Excavators were much more mixed with Cat,Komatsu,Liebherr,Ackerman,O&K,Demag and every far eastern effort you can think of.
Not forgetting the JCB brigade.
These days, although Komatsu supply many small to midsize dozers, you’d be hard pushed to find big ones. They seemed to have lost their crown in the 155 size and above.Cat have the D8,D9,D10 job sown up all though a D475 does work in a Scottish silica sand pit.
Scrapers are Cat only
