Born2clearcut; Wow another great picture - year is 1954 or (1955). HDX will definitely know and where picture was taken as well.

I'm the owner of the Steele Rock trucks you have pictures of and can answer some of the questions you have about them

Steele Rock; Welcome on board this great site. Very nice trucks you got. I was very impressed how well maintained your trucks are. Please any information will be welcomed. If you got serial # we ("HDX") can ad some information who got them from new. What kind of engines, rears have our interest as well. Do you own other off highway trucks beside those 3 HDX I took pictures of last summer?

I have a little bit of history on the trucks #2 was purchased from Bill Neil in 1986 he was out of Victoria area, Steele Rock has owned it since. It has 12V71T/A, RTOO13 speed trans (originally an Allison), 91,000lb clarke diffs (front diff is a posi torque), bunk rigging is Columbia truck and trailer which is a 60 ton Hayes, water tank is Hayes modified a bit beefier as you can see.The steering resevoir was mounted on the cab when I bought it off Bill. This truck is in very good shape the rear suspension was just done on it new trunion shafts ect. we spared no exspense.
#4 was bought off Inland Kenworth in Nanaimo in late 80's it is one that was remanufactured by them down to the frame or so they say.The plaque on the dash says ww contracting had the work done not sure but might have been Grahame out of Sooke.Anyways thats why the flat fenders and square headlights, 12V71,Allison trans, 91,000lb Clarkes (posi-torque in front also), 60 ton Hayes trailer. Both these trucks 2 and 4 are both 1970's #4 was remaned in 1984.
#7 is a 1965 it's been butchered and hacked by Inland Kenworth it has a Kenworth rear suspension(Ithink it was originally a 4640 truck) and now has 91's with the Kenworth suspension. The chair legs were cut off and the Kenworth stuff bolted on. 12v71, Allison trans, 91's with posi-torque in front, Columbia bunk riggin, 60 ton Columbia trailer newer style, water tank was moved back and a small fuel tank put between cab and water tank (must have developed a crack between fuel and water been down that road myself on #2 but took a different route on the repair).#7 was bought off Butch Carroll who bought off Bob Daines in Gold River I think before that maybe Hayes Forest Prod.
Also have a P16 in Gold River hauling for WFP bought off Butch Carroll in 2007.
I'll dig up the serial #'s for you and maybe you can find out more about these old girls for me and are you the guy takiing pictures of the trucks coming off the Kokish main in Beaver Cove where gravel meets the pavement if so I'll stop next time and BS you.I'll get back with serial #'s later Thanks Terry

Steele Rock Thanks for sharing information re. your trucks. Sorry I am not the guy taking pictures of your trucks. I shot those pictures when I visited BC last summer. I live in Denmark(Europe) - approx. 10.000 km from BC. But for sure I would like to live in BC. When you dig up serial numbers I am pretty sure HDX can ad more info.

Great looking dump truck, I was thinking how nice it would be to have one of those old horses with a dump body. With a tilt trailer with an excavator, behind headed to a job. Would sure make a fellow proud to have nice one and keep it working.

The truck in front is the one I drive. However I was only 8 at the time of this picture. This was in King Island back in 88. Hauling a spruce down to replace the old dump tree. This was just after the truck got out of the shop from a rebuild just after my dad bought it out of Alaska.

Post 173

Hey hayesno1, would you happen to have more photos of the Hayes HDX line truck pictured in post 173? I am looking to model one in 1/87 scale using a Don Mills HDX and this one in Alliford Bay fits the bill. I am interested in any other photos you may have of it, and in particular shots of the deck, winches, operator cab, line feed, etc. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

Regards

Scott

Welcome aboard scottympm, I am a model builder as well in scale 1/87 (mostly scratch built) - I got a few of Don Mills HDX. Pretty nice model even though fenders are not correct. Well I got several pictures of that line horse truck. Please e-mail me and I will contact you.

72HDX Great pics. Please, may I ask - what company/contractor are you working for? Your truck looks like an old BCFP truck, but I might be wrong. Please keep them comming!

I work/am an Olsen. The first truck, my dad got out of Alaska in 88. The other one (#3) my Grandfather (Irvin) Owned since new in 71. My dad bought it off him in 75. We added Hayden coolers to both trucks over the last 4 years. In the last picture, it was taken in 2004 in Fraser Bay. The other 1 of the 3 trucks in the back is the truck I drive, the other 2 are Mack CL350 that were R&N Loggings. They went to Benwest, when Benwest bought the operation.

This last one is in King Island back in 88 or 89. They were bringing it down to replace the old dump tree.
