Deere 310J 1T0310JXAA0190488 Engine 4045HT054

Backhoe ran great all summer. 10hrs since oil change and fuel filters and ran it at least twice a week. All of the sudden after startup the engine abruptly stopped and would not re-fire. Cranking great and full charge on battery and even tried big jump pack to help. Pulled air filter cover and sprayed a little starting fluid and it cranked a couple seconds but did not keep running. Fuel was not gelled over as I waited for a 40 degree day with forced heat on engine for over and hour.

I cracked open a fuel line after the injector pump and cracked will little to no fuel coming out of the line. I removed the connector on top of the primary fuel filter pump/solenoid and placed meter on harness and there was 0V DC with key on. Swapped fuel relay with trans relay with no change. I hear there may be an ECM fuse in the engine bay I am having no luck tracking it down?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Find link below to the Operators manual showing the ECM fuse location near the high pressure fuel pump.
https://techinfo-omview.apps-prod-v...210365/09001faa80cac09d?pin=1T0310JXAA0190488 .
FYI, your engine is Tier 3 .
Thanks so much, I thought that connector must be a provision on the harness for another engine or options mine did not use. Also very new backhoe owner, father-in-law has a CAT 420D but I new nothing about this machine or how to find the operators manual. Thanks for the link! I really need to buy the correct service/diag manuals. Paid for one online TM10847 but it did not have the correct primary fuel filter description so maybe I am mis-reading my serial # to find correct pubs

You need TM10846 Operation and Test manual. That will have theory, diagnostics and schematics for the machine. CTM502 is for the engine fuel system theory and diagnostics, and CTM104 for engine repair.

Thanks so much for giving me the correct manual identification numbers. I will definitely be picking these up as I am not located close to any repair location here in western Wy. Former aircraft mechanic with no tractor experience here. I will get to checking the fuse after work and report back with my findings.

Checked the 20A fuse on the engine block after work last night; it was good and checked it for continuity with a multimeter just to be sure. Going to pickup two new fuel filters today as I am hearing if fuel previously gelled over they may be clogged?

Got the new fuel filters, interestingly when pulling the old filters they were not full as I would expect. I put some power service 911 in new filters 1/4 full and wrestled them back on. Turned key on and held hand to prime pump of primary fuel filter and felt nothing. Repeated three times and checked everything was plugged in for 12V. Cranked engine 30 seconds with no start. Looked at fuel water separator bowl and it still has some space in it. Is the fuel pump on top of the primary fuel filter the next logical step? I would like to test with voltage but may be to difficult to get power fed into the connector female end.

Bingo! The fuse F31 I glanced over as I thought it was only for the seat air ride, seeing the word pump following seat air made my brain turn off the possibility of that fuse causing the issue. Now I have changed fuse and lift pump is running. Will wait until warmer temps at lunch tomorrow to crank. Also, see if fuse circuit has issue that needs further examination. Thank you so much for helping out a guy
