Everyone missed the obvious :beatsme

Can you say OVERLOADED!!! :duh

While this may not seem right to you poor folks in the Eastern half of our great country, it is perfectly normal here in CA. The lowboy is only 2 axle, but it has 8 tires per axle, and when expanded to 10' wide, the rear trailer group is good for 60,000#. That lowboy is a wide neck Cozad, and looks like a 60 tonner.
Here in CA, we can permit up to 22,000# on the front axle, 46,750# on the drivers of the tractor, and 60,000# on the trailer for a total gross of 128,750# if it is balanced out right. The truck nd trailer will light weight at around 38,000#, allowing for up to 90,750# of load. The D-8R as pictured with the sweeps and extra wide cab probably goes about 85 to 88,000#, so well within legal limits.
I have a similar truck with a 44 ton Murray lowboy and haul D-8R and D-8T with it on a regular basis.

I guess us yanks ain't livin rite See were only allowed 20K on steer if were running super singles up front otherwise were limited to tire capacity. Then were only allowed 34K on tandems and that doesn't matter whether its the truck or trailer. Now if you have a split axle trailer you can get lucky and run 20K per axle as long as the spread is longer than 9 feet. For that kind of a load in IL you would run a triple axle truck so you could get 46750 on it but you would run a 4 axle trailer if your measurements are correct because that trailer in IL would only allow you to gross 73280. As far as all them tires are concerned here in IL that wouldn't gain you one pound on your gross rating.

Now for more fun if it is between feb 15 and may 15 we are only allowed 70% of gross if you are not on designated truck routes

This time of year its hard to move my D6R with a 235 inch truck and 42 ft trailer, so you can see how I may have missed it

These are really cool tractors. I remember when CDF contracted to build these. Safety Cab in Fresno, CA built the cab big enough for the swamper to ride in with the operator. All of the window glass is oven tinted glass. The lights are all HID.

Here are some more pics.

Great pics , we have been called to go to fires before , never got to play, but the dozers made a ton of money sittin on the lowboys

about being overloaded , here in New Mexico , if you get called to any federal problem you dont have to worry about permits , weight or width all you have to worry about is height, chaining it down safely and getting there quickly and your truck/trailer being able to handle it , we even took a D9R to a fire once with a quad axle lowboy all in one piece , the best part was the NMDOT escorted us

Need guts to drive one.

Think of the balls you need to drive that thing into a wall of fire.
These guys have nerves of steel. I always wondered what they would do in a flash over.

If you talk to railroaders you'll get stories like that too, at least around here. One of the companys here in VT does ALOT with the state police working on Operation Stop.

During one derailment the dump truckers where hauling right down the interstate way over loaded. A trooper stopped them and ticketed all of them he could get his hands on. The railroad's owner found out and made a call. The trooper was down there a little while later ripping up the tickets. Same thing for moving equipment here you can't move equipment sat and sun but they moved sidebooms and other eqiupment in on a sun and had a police escort for doing it.

I thought the idea was to stay out of the fire and cut tracks / fire breaks to try and stop the fires progress.

The idea is to keep out of the fire, but with wind changes, changes in fuel load, dry timber and brush, etc, etc. The fire can come around on you before you can get out or away.

Roger that. You wanna stay out of the flames, but the flames ALWAYS have another idea, and somehow want to come to you, and no way can a dozer out run the flames.

Not to hijack this thread, but we get by with moving equipment about anytime we need to ,including the middle of the night. Seems that the railroad has some friends in the right places. and cost is not an option
