I'm new to the forum, grew up around tractors, loaders, and dozers. So I know enough about the basics to keep something running if it's an issue I've come across before. However, I picked up an excavator the other day (Terex TC16)from a buddy's father in-law. So when I asked if it had any serious issues and was told no, I trusted his word. It ran perfectly during the show and tell faze. So I paid him and loaded it on the trailer. When I get it home, it unloaded fine. Once off the trailer I let it idle while my brother and dad walked around kicking the proverbial tires on it. Once I got ready to take it to the barn, it would idle up and run fine until I tried to turn, or do anything with the hydraulics. It would start bogging, blow black smoke and die. I changed all the fuel associated filters on it, blew the lines out and checked fuel pressure, changed hydraulic filters, and tried running it with no air filter to see if it was a breathing issue. It runs and operates like a champ for 5-10 minutes then becomes to aggravating to operate. After all the tinkering, it does fine as long as the actuators are being extended the cylinder (pushing) however when retracting (pulling) it's terrible. I had an issue similar to this on a dozer and it wound up being a wore out governor ring in the injection pump. In that scenario it didn't affect the hydraulics what so ever. It would just die once it had to much back pressure. In this case the engine runs fine low and high for as long as the key is on, unless the actuators have to pull, So any ideas on what to look at next is appreciated.
