Loaders on trucks.. IHC Donal Duc, Hayes HD and Mack B-model, VI summer 2005
Trakloader I see Roy from time to time Frank Ham lives across the street from me, Got him on driving for us for some years then he pulled the pin. Maybe get him back driving holiday relief. We got H271 .H147 (parted out after driver was killed coming down bad hill) and H149. I was driving lowbed then and rather than unhook all the time I adopted old H44 because none of the new guys would drive her(no power) because all she had was the twin turbo and everything else was KTA power. I sure liked to drive that truck nice and smooth but alas she went to LLL along with H271 We kept 149 till HFS sold her to some other outfit maybe south america. Mike Murphy sure did a nice job on those trucks. Is that old HDX with the yarder mounted on it still around? I think it had a Clark 8 spd auto trans in it. Im kind of looking around for one for a WHD I restored. I loved the scream of those trannys. If you ever get close to any of those Hayes's go to the drivers side in behind the front (steering) wheel where the bulkhead fitting for the front wheel brakes is and scrape off the dirt and rust and you will find the serial number The HD/WHD is just a little lower and back a little further. If you can come up with serial numbers I can tell you who got the truck new.Got all the factory Hayes records and blueprints here! Only thing is Hayes used a 7 digit number till 1970 then they went to a 4 digit number. I can tell you all about those sometime if you are interested and how to break the numbers down OK SD
What I like very much of the logging industry on Vancouver Island is how worn-out logging trucks get a second or some times a 3rd life when convereted to tractors, sanders, line horses, water/fire dump trucks ei. Here are a few examples - funny to see that Hayes seems to outlast the other makes

Hayesno1 The WHD there was bought new by Cattermole Timber and then somehow was sold to Elk River Timber, They in turn were bought out by BCFP hence the paint scheme. She was sold at a R&B auction and Island Pacific bought her. She sits up at the old Crown Z shop at Courtenay at the present time but alas she had a runaway up there as a fire tanker and it overreved the engine and it came unglued. We are talking about saving her as we speak --she has an HD front bumper on her as you can see and it has 4700 rear diffs with 14:00X24 tires. We are talking to the owner about letting our Hayes Club stuff another engine in it to keep her going if nothing else than a parade truck. Not a lot of 4700 rear end trucks around anymore. We are doing up Elk River Timber #14 when time permits It also has the 4700 rears but has a 6-110 GM engine, also very rare.
