Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

Standing water can be an issue depending on the amount of rain. Would having a section of perforated pipe that runs for 50 ft or so and then switches back to solid be a good way to handle the surface water? I would run the solid pipe when getting close to trees to avoid root intrusion. Or...

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

I’m assuming the run of pipe should be perforated as well? I’m a little unclear as to where the pipe should be perforated and where it should be solid.

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

While the tile lining sounds like a good idea, I know for certain there are a several areas of broken tile and one area where the 6” corrugated is flattened out. I do own a 6 ton excavator and skid steer so digging it up wouldn’t cost much more than material and fuel.

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

Thanks for the comments. This leads the discussion in another direction…should the replacement tile be corrugated, dwv, gasketed? As far as the main line, I’d assume it is solid and the laterals are the perforated?

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

That’s what I was thinking at first, a blocked outlet. After probing around with a shovel I’m 100% certain the tile is broke in a few places where it bubbles up. My septic and sump pump tie in to the main tile, which is downstream from the broken clay section. There seems to be no issue...

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

It’s legal around here. I just had a septic installed two years ago and it was approved for on-lot discharge. My septic discharges into the same tile run after treatment (primarily UV). Rock for looks more than anything, not erosion control. But you’re right, grass could be another option.

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

That’s why the swale option was interesting to me, but the cost of rock might be substantially more than pipe.

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

From what I know only one neighbor ties into the drain for his septic and sump pump. He had mentioned his septic outflow backing up occasionally, and that it may tie into the line I’m looking at repairing. I had mentioned to him is collapsed it is collapsed in a few areas and I was looking to...

Drainage Question - Tile Vs. Ditch / Swale

Hi All, I'm looking into some drainage issues I'm having at my property. There are a few holes where water is bubbling up during a heavy rain and has washed soil along with it, so I'm trying to make a plan on how to address the repairs. Option 1 would be to fix the existing tile (clay and...

    Excavator Cleaning

Thanks for the info. The scraper is some plastic job from a local auto parts store. Works well when scraping sensitive materials (aluminum, etc.)

There seems to be only 1 small plate off to the side (green arrow), so not much in the way of underside access.

    Excavator Cleaning

Hi All, I’ve been cleaning up a Kubota KX161-2 purchased a few months back and am curious on the proper way to clean accumulated dirt / grease out of the belly of the machine. I’ve been digging the packed in mud out with a scraper at this point but there are areas that can’t be reached even...

    Kubota Hydraulic Pump Leak

Is this the plug you’re referring to? I’m trying to find the procedure in the service manual I have but haven’t located yet.

    Kubota Hydraulic Pump Leak

I've finally gotten around to replacing the seals. A pretty straightforward job. The o-ring seals were definitely hard and compression set. The vacuum trick didn't seem to be enough to hold back the flow so I ended up draining the hydraulic tank (needed to do anyway). Is there any...

Iso 46 or Iso 68 Hydraulic Fluid

Thanks guys. Iso 46 it is. I haven’t been able to find info on the temperature ranges for the HV, but that’s interesting to me as well.

Iso 46 or Iso 68 Hydraulic Fluid

Hi All, I’m in the process of changing out the hydraulic oil on a Kubota KX161-2. The book recommends shell tellus Iso 46 for between 20F and 70F, and Iso 68 for temperatures up to 90F. With my being in northern Ohio, I don’t expect to see long periods at the upper temperature range. I’ve...

    Kubota Hydraulic Pump Leak

I’ve ordered the o-rings for the repair but will be leaving the pump on the machine as the trunion cover (#480) is readily accessible. I’m also hesitant to pull off some of the suction and pressure tubing for fear of opening a can of worms. Being relatively new to heavy equipment, does the...

    Kubota SSV65 Chain Case Leak

I had my skid steer (2018 Kubota SSV65) stored in an unheated portion of my outbuilding for winter. Over the holiday break I noticed the chain case was leaking in the lower corner. After getting the cover off, it seems the RTV gasket failed because of corrosion getting behind the cover. I’ve...

    Kubota Hydraulic Pump Leak

Yeah I’ll look into taking it off the machine, seems easy enough.
