Cat 252 B2 ECM help needed

Hi,
I have a Cat 252 B2 and the ecm had a pin break so I sent it away to get fixed. They said they couldn't fix it and sent it back to me and charge me several hundred for that. I sent it away to another place and they put a new pin in and cleaned up the corrosion on it. Then said it no longer communicates and will need to have an ecm of the identical kind of machine so they can open the ecm and clone it to mine so it can communicate and then be programmed. Anybody out there able to help a poor farmer out?

TBH rather than trying to repair the broken ECM an aftermarket replacement would most likely have been the most cost-effective solution. Genuine factory ECMs were North of $4k the last time I looked. An aftermarket one would be probably a quarter of that.

What's the machine Serial Number.? That will identify the ECM Part Number.

The serial is SCP06120 and after market is about $8500 plus $2500 for the core. My core isn't working so wouldn't meet the requirements so I'm looking at $11,000. Which is basically the price of an oem new and wouldn't require a core. I tried the $1500 ones from Amazon but they don't work.

The amazon one did allow the machine to start and operate the locking pins for attachments only. Wasn't able to operate or move the machine.

Which control are you wanting.? The Operator Interlock or the AUX Hydraulic ECM.?

How exactly did the pin break because both ECMs are located under the floor.
Did the machine have problems before that.?

It was repaired after a flood which caused some corrosion. Not sure how the pin broke. I bought the machine that way and didn't know until I tried to use the auger and I had no aux power

So it's the AUX Hydraulic ECM you are working on, correct.?

It is perfectly possible that there are other problems in the machine apart from the ECM. I hope you have considered that possibility.

So if I understand it correctly you only discovered the problem with the broken ECM pin when you connected an auger to the machine and found that it wouldn't work. Is that correct.?

Practical field experience of work done by "electronics repair specialists" who claim to be capable of repairing ECMs is almost universally negative.

I know it's not what you want to hear at this point but throwing any more money at that broken ECM is simply throwing good money after bad.

I sincerely doubt their capability to do this, if for no other reason that the fact that the ECM in question is not externally programmable, the memory is a physical (non-replaceable) "chip" for want of a better word. If it will not communicate the chances are that there is other internal component damage.

I should have mentioned this at the time but I want to make it clear that I have no connection whatsoever with the company whose site I linked above. I am not employed by them either directly or indirectly.

All I do know is that the AUX Hydraulic ECM in these machines is failure-prone as a result of its location under the cab floor. The fact that your machine was flooded at one time should have been sufficient to toast the ECM because they are not 100% waterproof.

A number of members of this forum have purchased that very same Part Number from the same supplier and, with one exception[1], have been completely satisfied with the product.

[1] one purchaser received an ECM that didn’t work right out of the box. The supplier shipped him a replacement free of charge under warranty that worked as it should.
