Boone,
No need to bump the thread, I still enjoying checking in on your progress from time to time. Here's a pic of my loader with a recent addition. The loader is a '97 model with the cummins engine, the dozer is a '72 model with the DT466. It was repainted and someone tried to pass it off as a Dresser. I'm hoping to repaint it this winter and get original type decals back on it. I've rebuilt the right track adjust since this pic, replaced most of the hyd lines, rebuilt the fuel pump, fixed a lot of the brake/clutch linkages to reduce play and make it easier to work along with rebuilding both steering boosters. Oh, and rewiring it as the guy I bought it from had the batteries hooked up as 24v positive ground. Most of the gauges and alternator was fried.

Keep the pics coming, enjoying watching someone else clear as well. I'm working a new place we just bought here in LA (lower Alabama).

Great pic dhutch. That's the very combo of machines we'd talked about having when we were in the middle of our clearing. I read about your adventures with the fuel pump on redpower. Don't know how you figured that out with the balancer being off. Sounds like you've put things right with both the TD-15 and the 175C. It's always fun to fix other people's mess. LOL! Would love to see action shots if you ever get a chance.

Boone, congratulations on reaching the 280,000 mark on this thread. That must be close to a record. I must admit that I miss seeing your post from time to time. Best Regards.

Wish I had more loader work to report. Its about worked itself out of a job. Haha.

Been busy with other projects at the farm
* Renovating the old house - it was either fix it up or let it fall in
* Little bit of barn work
* Trail cutting
* Finish clearing out around spring
* Making a shooting gallery in an old in-ground silo. Will definitely use loader for this :)

Maybe as the weather warms I'll have a few things worth sharing.

Awesome read!!

Boone, you truly are an inspiration, what a great read this thread was. I just bought my first excavator 1983 Cat 225Lc 3304 4cyl, I hope I don't have to do anything major right off the bat as you did, although after reading this thread i'm not afraid to tackle any job.

Good to hear from you as well Ron. Will do. It's not good to let the equipment sit, so we'll be getting it out soon.

Glad you had fun reading it. Looking back it's kinda nice to see how it all unfolded. Sure looks like a nice 225. Nice size too! What's your plans with it?

Thanks, it's super clean for the year and hours, 10,360, besides a few leaks. Plans for the 225 Lc are to clean out a creek on my parents property, use it for my little scrap business on the side "if prices ever come back up" I do have jobs from 3 neighbors lined up one is cleaning out a pond, another is to dig a pond on a farm and the third is a demo/clearing job, knocking down old pig pens and clearing about 5 acres, all these jobs are within 2 miles of each other. I have been searching for a 225 for at least 4 years, I'm picky I guess, it had to have the 3304 4cyl and it had to have the rexroth double pump set up. I'll be sure to post pictures as I know the members love pics.

Nice size machine, makes me jealous! All it needs is a thumb to be even more functional, even a standard fixed pin thumb works well on these. Watch the rollers, two compatriots have similar sized Cat units, both have had issues with top rollers locked up and bottom roller flange roll off.

Thanks for the private message, wish I could have been more help to you. Those Air streams were a class act,you knew right away that their owners were serious about motor homes.
That front window on your 225 was worth the price of the machine in my book.the way it stored, you could use half of it,top half or bottom half,if you were trenching to grade in the rain just the top half gave protection,I don't why Cat didn't keep that.Good luck with it,good choice.Ron G

I was just curious what the differences were between the b c d etc no worries, the front window is an awesome design, "my glass is broke" gonna have auto glass place cut me 2 pieces Airstream is a super neat camper. The 225 is in pretty good shape for having 10,360 hrs, not sure if the engine, pumps, swing bearing, etc has ever been done she fires right up and is pretty damn tight for a 33 yr old machine, just have to replace the rear main seal and a few hydraulic leaks and I'll run her till she needs an overhaul. I feel I got it for a good price that its worth putting money into, I'll probably have it forever anyway, took me a long time to find one with a 3304 and the double rexroth pump set up that was in good shape and not beat to death.

Have fun with it.The hydraulics were fast on them compared to the competition of that vintage and were fun to run.Ron G

Ron it's funny you say that about the hydraulics, I just came in from running it for the first time, it's very quick. I have read on HEF some guys saying how they are slow and how you can't have one track going one way and the other track going the other direction when turning, or how you can't use the stick/boom as your traveling, All FALSE INFO!! I run a 2006 Komatsu Pc228us at work and I don't notice much less speed on my 225. I'm gonna start the tear down to replace the rear main seal tomorrow, any advice? I know I can remove the pump drive and pumps as one unit so thats a plus, also I don't wanna do this job twice so should I just spend the money and get it from Cat dealer? Thanks
