    Reaching out to HEF Management

Thank you all for your kind words. I put the forums together in my spare time and continue to operate it evenings, I have a regular job that demands my attention other times. The first week of the month is exceptionally busy with meetings taking place evenings, and this week had a holiday in...

    Cat 248 Joystick Broken

Thanks Nige. I've got the two button model for the hydraulics. My left stick has the same two buttons plus the horn button. I think those buttons may go to the electric connector on the boom for accessories but I've never had anything that plugs into it.

    Cat 248 Joystick Broken

Thanks Nige! I think that's all it is, I don't run it as often as I used to but I'll check tomorrow. The right side has just a auxiliary hydraulics switch, I imagine similar?

    Cat 248 Joystick Broken

My 248 is 25 years old now and while operating it today I noticed the left joystick was at an odd angle. On closer look the base of the plastic handle is cracked allowing it to wobble on what I imagine is a steel stalk within it. The right side can't be far behind it, it has a similar crack but...

    Blown V3800 Engine

Just for kicks I checked ebay, there's a used one there for $4800. It's in California so shipping shouldn't be as bad as from the east coast. That's a whole lot less than $40K!!!

    Concrete Pump

There's a construction yard a few miles from me and when I drove past last week I noticed this concrete pump parked there. I stopped to take a couple pics. Nearly all the concrete pumps I've seen are on a Mack cabover chassis but I've never seen one this heavy before!! I couldn't find any tags...

How to get a large tire back on the rim

I've seated troublesome tires with ether numerous times, just a quick shot around the rim OUTDOORS and touch it off with a lit rag on the end of a stick to give yourself some distance. No more than a 5 second shot. Someone mentioned today's ether isn't as potent, I've wondered about that myself...

    GMC V12 Fire Truck

Local fire department used to have a yellow GMC cabover they called Yellowbird. I sent the link to one of the members to see if it might be it. They sold it to another fire department, I don't know where.

    ///// 1984 international truck /////

DOT regs for the truck will partly depend on your state. Here in NY you must be qualified to drive the max GVWR regardless of what it's registered for.

    New backhoe operator

Practice in an open area where the boom can't hit anything, beside you or above. The John Deere pattern and controls are user friendly, based on what you've stated you should pick it up pretty quickly. That being said don't do any digging in tight areas until you're VERY familiar with the...

    Refurbed Seat

Nice job!!! I did the seats in my first car in a similar manner using upholstery fabric from the fabric store. Funny how lack of funds and determination can fix things sometimes!!

    International T444E not starting

I don't know if IH uses a similar system but the Ford version had issues with the cam sensor. It sends a signal to the injectors on when to fire. Symptoms are similar to what you describe. Those of us who had the PowerStroke kept a spare in the glove box. It's located in the side of the timing...

    Toro Steel Buildings

Post some pictures of your progress. Ideally a concrete pad would be best for the containers but if you're looking to make it less expensive depending on the soil conditions I think I'd go with about 6 inches of compacted item 4. It's called different things in different regions, it a blend of...

    Medium duty truck questions

This engine is very similar to the 7.3 PowerStroke, IH supplied Ford the long block and Ford designed their own injection system and electronics. The Ford version was 225HP due to the horsepower wars among pickup manufacturers. Although the horsepower rating of the IH is lower I remember the...

    Shop floor concrete

When you look at the radiant floor heating from an engineering standpoint, the concrete floor is a big heat sink. It will take a longer period of time to bring the concrete up to temperature from cold but once it has achieved temperature it will hold it steady for a longer period of time than...

    Shop floor concrete

Get several opinions on the radiant floor heating. Some swear by it, others curse it. If you're doing a lot of work close to the floor or on a creeper it can become a sweatbox.

    Cummins new gas engine

The 351W was such a success the demand was higher than Ford could produce them. To meet the immediate demand they created the 351M for Modified using the 400 block with the 351W crank. The result was dismal. It was a very low compression engine to meet smog requirements and horsepower was just...
