    Thanks for the reply.....actually I guess it wasn't free flow from the tank! Dripped about 2 gallons in the 6 hours it took to replace the hose.

    seems to me that the weak point in all these joints is the sleeve that the ball joint is in. Out of the nine spherical bearings i'm replacing, only one of the sleeves survived...all other 8 were broken!!! And my machine only has 6500 hours!

    Thanks Nige, that clears that up! Thank you Nige...I can see that!! But don't you think the new bolted on retainer is much more stable and stronger than the snap ring holding the old style in place?

    yes, spherical bearing was holding it....and the spacers....would have actually come out either way...top or bottom...only thing holding it is the retainer on the top!

    got it out, took the four bolts out from the housing and removed the whole thing so I could flip it upsidedown and drive from the bottom. Thanks for all the advice!

    Already taken the blade off the machine and have been rebuilding the hydraulic cylinders and all the ball joints. I went ahead and removed that housing that has the four bolts that holds the dogbone. got it out now where I can whale on it with a ten pounder and it is tough. Moved it about 3/4...

    D5N xl AGGO1698......trying to remove the pin on the c frame dog bone...pin seems loose and drawings don't show any thing holding it after the top retainer is removed but it will not drive out from the top...I can feel the bottom of the pin flush with the housing. Am I missing a retainer...

    Thanks Nige, I have the bearing and I have the retaining rings but the hole that the bearing fits in is a little wallered out. I can have it welded and bored but wanted to see about the cost of the new piece it fits in. Somewhere on here I seen a video of one being cut out and welded back in...

    Caterpillar D5N xl ser # aggo1698 would anyone know the part number for the welded in ring that the main pivot/tilt bearing fits inside of. Bearing number is 197-6439 spherical bearing for tilt angle blade?

    Yeah, now I have a nice 36 inch all thread unused after your warning! I will have to rig a shackle to press new pins back in place, maybe I can use it and the cat pulling tool to rig that!
