    Falling Scrap Iron prices

Scrap it is... Anybody breaking a ship or do you have a primary scrap yard within hauling distance? Look for a facility with a shear or something to pull it apart. I doubt it's worth your time to separate the metals and deal with the insulation. You might have to treat the insulation as haz...

    Falling Scrap Iron prices

If you have the equipment, separate the tank from the trailer. As it's being scrapped, a mobile dry bulk tank isn't worth much. A Flexi-van trailer maybe.

    Anti-Seize compound usage?

Lug nuts on my antique Porsche car have Anti seize from the factory. Steel studs, aluminum nuts. I always require any tire service to use a special socket I supply, to remove the nuts. And leave the car outside for me to use my torque wrench for final torque. Years ago, NTW screwed up the...

    Overload of the Day

Reminds me of a naval story... In 1807, Captain Hornblower on the 38-gun frigate HMS Lydia, sailing the Caribbean seas when they spotted a lone French ship. Before the battle began, the captain shouted, "Bring me my red shirt!" It was a long fight but the captain and his men were victorious...

    Radio Loses station

Auto radios have a "memory" lead that requires constant 12 volt power. Perhaps your dozer radio either has lost its memory lead or memory fuse is blown.

    What's your hoe doing?

There's an exception... A clear hazard like a dead tree is the responsibility of the property owner. I got a neighbor (in Georgia) to remove a dead tree threatening my house with a letter informing him, copied to my insurance company. As I understood the situation, after paying my claim, my...

    What's your hoe doing?

I have a repurposed boat shed for the backhoe. Increased the side height from 5 feet to 9 feet, with new metal. Anchored it with 5 per side 4 foot rebar driven with the last 6 inch bent over. Heated with oxy/acc then bent.

    JD 310 D injector pump

I had the same issue with my 310C. Sent the pump for rebuild. Do not take the injection pump off before investigating the proper procedure. Retiming the pump to the engine is a WHOLE lot more work than doing it correctly.

Any tricks to get JIC fittings started in cramped area's?

Next time ... Make a loop of string or small diameter rope. Use the loop to make a Prussic loop on the hydraulic line. This gives you a helpful loop to pull or hold the line.

    Just whining about people.

Better is "round-up" or glyphosate herbicide. Takes a week to kill the grass. Revenge is best served cold.

Looking HARD at purchasing a 100T portable track pin press......anybody use one and have thoughts??

The main guy doing the work was almost 80 and made us look bad. Used a 20lb sledge to knock a pin out and reinstall..... Them "old guys" have technique. My 74 year old hay mentor stacked a whole hay wagon behind the baler, alone. The next year, TWO high school "Football players" almost died...

What is the most dependable truck engine of all time?

Interesting thought... At the facilities I worked at ... The electric fire pump motor didn't have the usual overload protected starters. They were meant to run till they couldn't. Same with military generators... They have a switch ... called "Battle short" or some such. Run till it can't.

    Just another day in paradise

Mike L ... Fast is Expensive. Fedex created an industry out of that. He wants Fast. You determine how Expensive. I get backhoe parts from my local Deere dealer. It's a hobby machine so I wait on regular parts delivery for no shipping charges. Yet, dealer can expedite parts in a few hours...
