What kind of truck is that in the center of last picture? Was this in Renfrew as well?

Cool pictures, I always look forward to seeing more of them!

VERY CLASSY She is a Corbitt model 50SD6 / White Model 666 6Ton powered by a HXD Herc 855ci Gas engine and 6 wheel drive These trucks were built by both Companies and were the same truck For you military guru's they were G-512 and G514 In this picture you can see what appears to be an M26 "Wiffle Tree" welded onto the top behind the cab Must have been for hanging a block for some special purpose These old Line horse's / Rig up goats were always heavily modified by the "Rig Up Crews" that worked them The blacksmith shops would make all kinds of special job related equipment for these guys Born2clearcut this is one of the few remaining sets of pictures showing the raising of a tree WELL DONE

Very interesting... Thank you for the post! That would be a cool truck to make a scale model of someday. Anybody have more pictures of those trucks?

Very cool pics Born to clearcut. This stuff is intriguing. Makes you realise how easy things are these days, comparitively.

Like Torkel, I enjoy the stuff you put up too.

You're right Kiwi , We work hard in the the bush today ,but they worked harder back then . They were a very inventive bunch back in the day, which has got us to the point we are at now in the logging industry.

Trying tto figure out what to do when I grow up
I'm thinking that the rigging/guywire design was done by the wire and cable salesman...or the engineer had a spar fall over in the past...and he said "not this time!"

Wooden spars flex a lot, so they need an extra set of guylines to prevent the tree from collapsing. The taller the tree, the more guylines. Some had three sets in total.

Nice pictures, what were they trying to achieve by putting the bucket facing away from the excavator?

Those shovel fronts were popular for a short period in the 70's-80's. They really produced, the Poclain they had here often built 800ft. of subgrade in a day. I think they only stopped using them because they still had to work off of mats.
