I would have loved to dig those trenches!!

After the last week, I am vowing never to operate a dozer again! I dont have a lot of time in them but the ride on hardpack caliche is backbreaking and kidney bruising.

More power to ya!! :notworthy

What,no Cat padlocks???Ron G:D :D

I just as well leave everything open with a big lit up "Come And Get It" sign if I were to use Cat locks.
If I remember right, I think I may have had a Cat lock key well before I even knew what it was for. I know I had a disconnect key by the 7th grade.... part of my drivers/operators training course. :D
FWIW, thanks Massey Sand and Rock..... and I always checked the water and oil first.

There....I finally got that one off of my chest.....

Those Cat locks are pretty tough but I carry a 30" master key that deals pretty well with locks that somebody forgot to bring a key for to avoid shutting the job down.
In this area they are sold with a boot on them to keep the nasties out to help avoid freezing etc.
I have worked for many companies over the years and those cussed Master laminated locks are found just about everywhere, sometimes the keys will look almost identical but be different. They have special sets of locks sold by the box full with one key and sometimes I have found that a key that I already have will work so I never throw them away when I change jobs.
The problem with Cat locks is that they are too large for some equipment, the ubolt will not fit through the hole provided to accept a padlock so you cannot standardize your locks using them if you run other brands.Kinda like the Harley handlebars.:usa
I have found that as often as not the contractors install the disconnect key, turn it on and leave it on as policy so if that is the case the Cat doorkey/lockkey is enough to provide plenty of damage if the carrier so desires.
As long as you checked the oil and water I am sure they would not have minded, glad you got that off of your chest.;) Ron G

What I'd give for 1 day out in that 8. Just me and the machine. We had a job doing an orchard removal like that last spring. It was way out of town, a good 15 minutes out in the sticks. I was on a 95 acre plot and at times I was completely by myself running our 312. I was out one night until 12AM, 19 hour shift. I miss those days of just getting on a machine and going, no BS, no traffic, just a good day of burnin diesel.

Did you try letting a bunch of air out of your tires, I did see a compressor in the bed right?

Thats what I ended up doing.
The rears were already at 50psi.
I lowered the fronts to 50 also...that made a huge difference.
Now, I air the fronts down on the way in and air them back up on the way out. It takes a little more of my time but its better than breaking something.

Stuck = no more forward movement.
After I aired down I was able to go on.
There is mile after mile of trails like this. If I wanted to break something I could have made it look more stuck? With temps climbing above 100, I just don't feel like digging out under my truck to fix the drive line I just broke from burying my tires.
There is still a long way to go. Survival is the key.
