    Pulling a Disc

I have done this before w/ a D5. Works slick. if you dont have an extra hydraulic valve, we spliced the hoses running to the tilt cylinder and ran a set to the disc or anything else needing hydraulics.

    Anyone headed to Haiti?

I've heard the same. A storm cleanup contractor from our town supposedly is owed +2mil dollars from Katrina. They paid their employees, bought the fuel, fixed the equipment and are still waiting on payment. 3+ years later. i doubt the IRS would tolerate me paying my dues when i feel...

    Operating Speed/RPM's

I can tell i'm in the minority with this comment but i normally run at 7-8 range. I am not a 7-5 excavator operator, or make a living off of being an operator. i've own my 320 for 2+ yrs. taught myself, and tried to pickup tidbits of expertise from places like here. I have found the...

    baby bulldozer/loader

never been around one, so this is just opinions i would think an older D2/D4 would get more done and be similar if not cheaper to run in the long run....

thanks for the links. google came up with a couple of those for me, others i hadnt stumbled across. understood on running them or not. i've got most of my farm equipment from my childhood, and we dont own many MM or Case's but they are still cool to own. it would be pretty neat in...

    finding models

this is a dumb question, but do many guys find models of the equipment they've owned/operated? i think it would be kinda neat to have a model of each piece of equipment i've owned or operated. doing a little looking around on the internet, seems like there are more models of the really...

    cold weather operation

haha... the only problem is 6months is half the year! the black carhartts are good. head gear gets challenging. i have a facemask made by underarmor that is good at moving moisture away, and you can change the amount of face that is covered, eye slits to under your chin easily...

    cold weather operation

Watglen, thanks for the link on the heater. that little rascal might just do the trick it doesnt have to been that terrible cold for a chill to creep into a man just sitting. the trick is to know the balance of what you'll be doing and to dress appropiately. too much = sweat = bad...

    cold weather operation

good point on starting and not moving. i think with a week of 0°, the next time i'm gonna start the stuff up will be when the lowboy arrives. i'm sure a northerner or two will chuckle at waving the white flag, but its harder on the equipment, harder on me, and the finished product isnt...

    cold weather operation

lol good answer on the frozen ground. my tires were froze down the other day, and it was too late to get more.... i'll give you a report if this doesnt turn out so well. logical on the ether. i just dont like the rattling/banging/roughness starting something with ether brings about. any...

    cold weather operation

couple questions, stemming from the fact that i'm not used to running in cold weather. but a late fall never let me finish my field work. 1) frozen tracks. i clean my tracks diligently at the end of each day. i'm getting tired of moving around my tires. if the ground is already froze...

What size scraper can a D5B pull

Taylortractornu, I ran a D5 and pulled a 7.5 yard pan with it. The scraper was a soil mover, a tumblebug design that is still made by orthoman. I attached a picture. Since it didnt have force eject, the owner before me put quick connects off of the tilt cylinder and ran the dump off...

    laser receiver mounting on dozers

sounds pretty do-able zbo2. I put my head together with my welder buddy and we came up with a block mounted on 4bolts with old valve springs from a junk motor to act as absorbers and welded the pipe mount to the top block.... i'll grab a picture or 2. just wanted something...

    laser receiver mounting on dozers

Had a quick question about mounting a laser receiver on a dozer... Currently i just welded a 1 1/2" drive coupling to the outside corner pocket on my D6R's blade and screwed in the pipe that held the reciever. This met my hopes of being simple and removable for when i didnt want the rod...

    Komatsu's Answer to Cat's System1 Undercarriage

thats a pretty impressive buy 15-20% cost increase with increase to life span of 50+%. i like that math. Does any of the after market track manufacturers offer competition to this? or is that asking for a geo metro with mahogny trim? or does cat have this tied down with enough patents...

    Komatsu's Answer to Cat's System1 Undercarriage

Since this is a topic about system 1 or comparable undercarriages, what kind of price increase does a system 1 carry over a conventional? If the advertised life is +50% more, does the cost of the undercarriage go up 50%? Have most folks that have moved to a system 1, notice the advertised...

    protection for lightning

I remember my physics professor talking about the different planes of travel electricity takes once its on the ground. So like Digger's story at the air show, some people standing right next to the beer truck could be fine(actually that sounds like a really good spot to be). And then say...

Fiat, Visited with an old timer from the friesen camp awhile back. mentioned to him i was looking for a 6 or 7. I asked him if there was anything to stay away from, the only model he said was the D7F. I cant recall the reason, i'm thinking it was a drive train related issue but i dont...

    Window farming

makes sense.... in your pictures it looks flat, but i have seen some of the ground you are referencing. do the rubber tracks have different levels of aggressiveness or stuff in your area getting the same tracks as us midwesterners?
